One reason to avoid him, as he has distanced himself from the Catholic Church with heresy. The Church has always taught the State has the right to the death penalty to punish heinous crimes in principle, ultimately to uphold the sanctity of human life. Condemning the death penalty as a just punishment when someone is sane but rapes and murders children, for example, itself is of the culture of death. It is anti-Life.
