Happy Feast Day of the Nativity of Our Lady, the Mother of God! The Mrs. Making Filipino Torta Cake Today in Her Honor.

“Happy Feast day!”  Such is the occasional first thing my wife says to me when we wake up in the morning, to which, like today, I have to typically respond “Oh, which Feast day is that?”  She follows closely all the Feast days, better than me, both the Holy Days of Obligation and all the minor ones.

Back in the old country—the Philippines—her grandfather started a family tradition on the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady.  He hired someone to come to his home and bake a whole bunch of Filipino torta cakes to give out to friends, family, and neighbors, in honor of Our Lady’s birthday.  A kind of birthday cake.

Here is a pic of my wife’s torta cakes and one of our little family altars, this one with a statue of Our Lady of Fatima. I had a “mini-bite,” being on a Keto diet, and it was very good.  Rich, vanilla flavor.
