Introduction
The modernists of the new “synodal church” want Tradition, including the TLM, completely relegated to the past. As if doing so could ever be Catholic. They pretend a sixty year old system of modernist and liberal novelty is the new, living Tradition.
Over my dead body. I will fight in defense of the Faith, for me and mine, and for you and yours, until I die.
As should we all.
The Announcement
Roche, it seems speaking for Leo, the DECISION of course coming ultimately from Leo himself, effectively together dropped a NUCLEAR BOMB, on Thursday, on that part of the global Traditional Catholic Movement that is within the diocesan mainstream. I’m certain Roche wasn’t and wouldn’t be speaking just on his own behalf.
The megaton NUKE was quietly dropped on Catholics (estimated 70% of the movement) praying all along that Sunmorum Pontificum will be restored, or at least to see some merciful backtracking on Traditionis Custodes, to ease draconian restrictions on the ancient Mass. That has been pressing on their minds for over a year since the 2025 conclave, waiting to see if Leo will be as merciful as he is polished.
No chance.
Roche said, with a certain tone of antipathy towards TLM Catholics, SP will NOT be restored. TC will NOT be walked back. It is here to stay. AS IS. According to Roche speaking for Leo.
This is despite the fact VII, while calling for a simplified Roman rite, still called for the preservation of liturgical rites and usages more than 200 years old, one therefore being the Tridentine rite or useage. Hello. Ironically, traditional Catholics on this point are adhering to VII, and not conciliar Rome.
Local Consequences
The ancient Mass at Holy Cross parish in Wagoner, OK, the one and only temporarily remaining TLM in a diocesan parish of the Tulsa Diocese, will in due time be snuffed out. Per the requirement of TC.
Unless the bishop and pastor get very clever and for example implement a Byzantine rite of Mass or some other traditional rite, until one day we see less hostility from Rome.
It will no doubt first be transitioned to an exclusive Novus Ordo Mass with some extra smells and bells, and then later the typical innovations like Eucharistic ministers, and girl altar servers (already permitted there by the pastor). It is just a matter of time. And Rome will be orchestrating all of it with the chancery on ground level with the stealth and precision of remote drone pilots.
The HUNDREDS of diocesan TLM’s shut down around the world under the invalid TC since 2021 (Fr Z and other priests argued it was invalid due to its extremeness, among other points), which were built up from 2007 to 2021, will NOT be restored.
They are dead and buried.
The Reign of Terror Continues
Despite all the best efforts since the early 2000’s of the SSPX to see the TLM liberated for the universal Church, of Pope Benedict XVI doing so, of all the Latin Mass groups like Una Voce, Fr. Z’s work, Cardinal Burke’s recent TLM in St. Peter’s Basilica, the annual TLM pilgrimages, Michael Matt’s endless
pleas, Bishop Athanasius Schneider’s endless pleas, etc etc, despite evidence uncovered by journalists that the reasons given for TC were fabricated, which surely by now Leo knows about, or should know about, our all serene and gentile Papa Leo is giving us the proverbial MIDDLE FINGER.
Parental guidance on this next paragraph is advised, ideally for mature teenage boys and older:
He is ESSENTIALLY telling us through the diplomatic channel of Roche “F*ck you, you pharisaical renegades. Get with the program, Weirdos, or you will also be kicked out of the Church (that is the new “synodal church”). You must accept all new “fundamental elements” (per his recent street interview) including no more death penalty anywhere ever, “synodality,” etc, or else you are part of the Lefebvrite schism.”
My response: “We refuse a false, blind obedience, Holy Father. The Faith comes first. You will not break our faith. Even if you are officially the pope. We will offer the cross of your persecutions by you for your soul, that you one day convert from modernism to the fullness of Sacred Tradition, to the fullness of the Catholic Faith, and make amends for what you have done.”
The Great Purge
They are coming after all of us. Not only the SSPX. They know we traditionalists generally are not on board with VII, the new Mass, the post-conciliar reform, the modernist environment of the mainstream, Pachama worship, LGBTQ Masses in St. Peter’s Basilica, etc, etc, etc.
I’d give the FSSP and ICK 3 years before they dissolve or are shut down for refusing the say the Novus Ordo.
They know that is the viewpoint of most traditionalists who attend the FSSP, ICK, or who were once allowed the TLM in their regular, parochial parish. They know the entire trad movement is on some level directly or indirectly, in substance, in agreement with Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX. Even if they’ve never heard of them.
Because truthfully we all RESIST the conciliar and liturgical reform. We are NOT okay with it. We all are counter-revolutionary in some way as a response to the modernist Revolution that used V2 and Bugnini’s liturgical commission like a Trojan Horse to take over the structures.
They know the former Ecclesia Dei groups don’t accept VII or the new Mass in a wholehearted way, to conform with it, but accept it nominally more as lip service to keep permissions for their Latin Mass.
Spiritual Murder
This new decision as articulated by Roche, as a messenger of Leo, is akin to spiritual murder. To take away not only the traditional Mass of their birthright, but an entire unified system of spirituality, liturgy, music, architecture, theology, religious worldview, and culture synonymous with the Tridentine Rite. That is, destroying their life line would kill much or most of their spiritual life.
Imagine if they did that to Catholics of various Eastern Rites. I doubt they’d be silent about it on the internet.
He may as well now have gotten tattooed across his chest the number of the beast, 666. He must be AVOIDED as a pope (valid or not, a future pope will determine that) who is acting LIKE an anti-pope and LIKE an anti-Christ figure. Not breaking with him, nor turning our backs on him, to avoid schism, but generally backing away and avoiding him to avoid grave scandal after grave scandal.
Conclusion
This is one more declaration of War against Catholic Tradition, and us, and a sign they have already begun the Great Purge of the TLM.
This decision is NOT of the true Faith and true Church. This is of the Ape of the Church, i.e. of the Church of Anti-Christ, of the Church of Satan. It is diabolical.
It is invalid. Every Latin rite priest and congregation has the right to the TLM without any permissions. SP wasn’t a universal indult; it was Papal liturgical teaching confirming this, and what Pius V’s Quo Primum originally, liturgically taught and established in perpetuity.
Starting up New Traditional Catholic Chapels Everywhere
Study, pray, and prepare now. Soon enough many will need to form prayer cells (chapels) and ask that their group be placed under an SSPX chaplain, to eventually over time establish a local traditional Catholic church, as a doctrinal and liturgical oasis and refuge from the modernist mainstream.
This is akin to the time of St. Athanasius vs. Arianism. But worse. This time it involves the Vatican.
Remember that the only recent legally binding document against the SSPX is the Decree naming the six bishops, yet censures are suspended for them until their canonical appeal process is exhausted, which might take years, since they would have a right to a trial in Rome, and to all legal steps taken before the trial. Even later to appeal directly to Leo.
Yet still, canon 1323, section 4 says there is no penalty if there is a state of necessity, which is obvious, and yet section 7 says there is also no penalty even if mistaken there is a state of necessity. The Society genuinely claimed a state of necessity, so at the very least if they are mistaken, then therefore there is NO schism nor excommunications.
Dare I say they might even appeal on a civil level to the World Council of Churches, of which the Vatican is a member (!), or dare I say to a civil International Court. Not to interfere with internal Church affairs or force decisions, but to determine for the public record if 700,000 (earlier figures were 600,000, new clarification thanks to Anthony Stine) Catholics were subject to mass spiritual and psychological abuse by the Fernandez and Leo regime. Doubtful that is decided in the Society’s favor due to their likely liberal biases, but it at least makes the legal case more public.
Leo refused to meet with the Superior General, to continue BILATERAL discussions, to be truly ecumenical, but instead took a cruel, hammering approach out of obvious and verifiable prejudices. Doing so also destroys peace at the secular level.
Just think of the turmoil this false message of SSPX schism would have across France, in which the SSPX is very active with many chapels. This causes a state of confusion across France even at the civil level.
Plus consider the big lie they aren’t correcting, that the note and 1996 note it references have legal force, when they don’t, therefore causing the Church and world to now falsely believe 700,000 Catholics are in rebellious schism and now no longer even Catholic, which is public slander, when they are in fact not in schism, according to the canonical documentation, when any canon lawyer will tell you NO document legally declares this or makes it so. It’s a mass global lie against this Society that also disturbs the peace of secular society.
Also, they can bring their case even more fully before the court of public opinion as a sign of contradiction, to show the cruel and hypocritical war of modernists vs. Catholics loyal to Catholic Tradition more clearly than ever before. Surely there are journalists and networks that would be interested in looking at the hard facts from the SSPX’s point of view. Perhaps EWTN. Certainly LSN.
NO document with legal force now says the Society is now in schism, or the priests and laity are now to be considered “excommunicated,” or that their confessions are no longer valid, or that you can’t attend Society Masses. There are the facts what canon law says about the Decree vs. note, and there are the lies what the media is spreading on behalf of Kissy. The note, and 1996 note it references, have ZERO legal force or legal authority, per canon lawyers basically pointing this out.
Prepare Now to Start Traditional Catholic Chapels
Aside from the question where people attend Mass, or what is their official parish, meet say once a month if not weekly, have a prayer meeting in someone’s home, or online, or both, with an SSPX chaplain remotely at times giving the group support from a distance, praying the Mass using a missal, the rosary, singing and practicing chant, with a potluck.
It’s just a matter of time that Leo the Merciful Unifier snuffs out the entire approved traditional movement, in a clever, gentile sort of way, which forces us to operate under supplied jurisdiction provided for by canon law. Going back to the Novus Ordo can’t be a viable option. In fact before placing yourselves under the SSPX for pastoral support, ask that they give a conference explaining the supplied jurisdiction they are able to legitimately operate under.
