Update:12:51 am. It looks like discussions start at or after 1 am. In the meantime remember this: per the 1983 Code, as ironically once explained by Fr. Gerard Murray (an SSPX critic) when he wrote his canon law thesis, if a bishop consecrates another bishop without a papal mandate, excommunication does not occurs if there are “attenuating” circumstances. One is a grave state of necessarily, or grave fear, EVEN IF the bishop is SUBJECTIVELY in error about that. Check out excerpts from his approved thesis here: LINK

He sent the letter yesterday addressed also to all laity connected to the SSPX. He warns certain sacraments (seems to refer to confessions and marriages) could become invalid. Doesn’t warn of formal schism or excommunication for the whole organization let alone the laity. But if that happens, then he chose not to warn us first.
Too little, too late. It’s unreasonable and unjust to break silence just 2 days before, with all the preparations, and an estimated 15,000 traveling there worldwide. Last minute prayer the Society faxes him back. And they agree on a papal mandate and setting up a formal bilateral doctrinal committee. Later.
Miracles do happen.
To follow the advice given in Bishop Schneider’s intervention. Still expecting the nuke gets dropped in a few hours including onto us laity attached to the SSPX. But as we say in Oklahoma “Is what it is.”
