Bitterness of the Cold: a Poem

Dang, should’ve bought the pricier tires, car won’t get up the icy incline

Temps below 20 in Okie land feeling arctic

Bitter cold against the face, I opine

Pain and discomfort, enough to make the body sick

Facts of life. Death, taxes. And pain.

Months ago oppressive heat, last night bitter coldness.

Car stuck on a gradual slope in the ice, after snow and freezing rain.

Is what it is.  The fact of fallen Nature in its beauty, and at times bitterness.

But I embrace the cold, the air biting my face

The task in the dark getting my car free

Because we have to keep running the race of this trialed life, keeping our pace

Without daily crosses in this life, the face of God we shall not see
